3-month foetal hand (TIFF)
Hand of a 3 month old foetus prepared in 1940 by J. A. Bolton. The dark areas are regions of growth and presumably where bone is beginning to replace cartilage. Length of the entire specimen is a mere 17mm. A poignant image, I have often wondered what this child would have become should he or she had lived.
