The original "Twitter" scratch card (JPEG)
A rare card dating from the 1920s, that I have posted here "as is" i.e. without digital clean-up (this will be done at a later date, and will be difficult, given the postmark extending across the lady's left hand). I suspect that one can indeed rub out the ink spot because there seems to be an underlying layer of red dye which is beginning to show through. Remarkably, it appears that, even then, "Twitter" was alive and well, because on the back of this card is printed:
"If no more than five words of conventional Greeting and Name and Address are written here, only halfpenny stamp is required".
The sender wrote "Dear Bill, Many Happy Returns of the day, from Tom" and therefore had to affix a penny stamp.
